ST Engineering Antycip is excited to announce that the Sherwood Observatory Planetarium project is entering its final phase, with the installation of all key components now complete. As the project reaches fruition, a soft launch is set for November 2024, leading up to the official public opening in January 2025.
ST Engineering Antycip, in collaboration with RSA Cosmos – Konica Minolta, has been working closely with Sherwood Observatory to bring this groundbreaking £6.5 million planetarium to life. The planetarium will offer visitors an unparalleled immersive experience, featuring advanced SkyExplorer software and cutting-edge audiovisual technology. The facility is expected to become a landmark for STEM education and a major attraction for both local and international visitors.
Amir Khosh, Commercial and Project Manager at ST Engineering Antycip, expressed his excitement: "We are thrilled to see this project coming to fruition. It has been an exciting journey from inception, and we are eager to share this state-of-the-art educational experience with the community."
The planetarium, located on top of a restored Victorian reservoir, aims to inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. With a special focus on marginalised communities, the facility will offer educational opportunities and outreach programs, encouraging young people to explore careers in STEM fields.
Dr. Steve Wallace, Chairman and Project Manager at Sherwood Observatory, commented: "This project represents a significant opportunity to bridge educational gaps in our region. We are excited to bring this vision to life and look forward to inspiring a new generation through the planetarium. This would not have been possible without the fantastic support of Ashfield District Council, leaders from across our community, central government funding, the National Lottery Heritage Fund, and a host of private sector funders and individual donors.
While the official launch is scheduled for January 2025, the upcoming soft launch will provide a chance for audiences to experience the new Centre from late November, offering a glimpse into the future of immersive STEM education at Sherwood Observatory.
