Sherwood Observatory, a community-focused astronomical organisation, recognised a critical need to enhance STEM education and opportunities within their region.
Facing persistent regional disparities in educational outcomes and a threat to future prosperity. Their vision was to develop a cutting-edge planetarium and education centre that would not only serve as an engaging attraction but also bridge the gap between historical engineering achievements and future challenges.
The science centre, a separate building from the existing Sherwood Observatory, will be located on the site of a redundant underground Victorian reservoir, built in 1886. This location was chosen to take visitors on a journey from the Victorian-era reservoir to the state of the art planetarium and advancements in space science.
This ambitious project, marked the first large planetarium that Antycip delivered from scratch, going from inception fruition, required securing funding and partnering with experts capable of delivering a state-of-the-art planetarium experience.
