ABOUT THIS EVENT

Join the IT FLIES Webinar – From Concept to Cockpit!

Join us for a live webinar on Wednesday 6 May 2026 at 3:00 PM BST / 10:00 AM EDT, where we’ll explore IT FLIES, a global aircraft design competition that challenges aerospace students to turn ideas into fully realised, simulation-driven concepts.

This session is designed to give you a practical understanding of how the competition operates, whether you’re already considering entering or simply want to learn more. We’ll walk through the full journey, from early-stage design thinking to final evaluation, highlighting what participants experience along the way.

You’ll hear from key contributors to IT FLIES, including a test pilot judge, a former competitor, and our Merlin Manager. They’ll share their perspectives on what makes a design stand out, how submissions are assessed, and how advanced simulation tools are used to test and refine aircraft concepts in a realistic environment.

There will also be time for discussion, giving you the chance to ask questions and gain useful insight into both the technical and personal benefits of taking part, from developing your engineering approach to building confidence and connecting with a global network of peers.

Reserve your spot today and take the first step toward designing, testing, and flying your aircraft!

Meet the Speakers

Amir Khosh

Meet Amir Khosh our Merlin Manager at Antycip, working closely with universities, students, and industry partners to support the use of flight simulation in aerospace education and aircraft design. With a background in aerospace engineering and commercial programme development, he helps bridge the gap between technical capability and practical application.

His work focuses on helping organisations explore how simulation tools can support design thinking, teaching, research, and pilot in the loop evaluation. Through initiatives such as IT FLIES, Amir is particularly interested in encouraging the next generation of aerospace engineers to engage with aircraft design in a more applied and interactive way.

Gordon McClymont

Meet Gordon, who studied Mechanical Engineering at Glasgow University. After graduation, he joined the Royal Air Force as a pilot and served operationally on both the Jaguar and Tornado combat aircraft. His interest in flight engineering led him to qualify as a test pilot with the UK Ministry of Defence and US Government agencies. He later worked as an industry test pilot for BAE Systems as well as other commercial organisations.

He has also been closely involved in flight test training and has played a key role in developing the next generation of pilots and engineers entering the aerospace industry. Gordon’s flight experience spans a wide range of aircraft, from light aircraft to large transport category platforms, and from paragliders to high-speed tactical jets.

Jose Handoyo

Meet Jose a fourth year MEng Aerospace Engineering student at the University of Manchester with a strong focus on aircraft design, simulation, and advanced engineering systems. He has developed a solid technical foundation across disciplines including fluid mechanics, structures, and space systems, complemented by hands-on experience in CAD design, CFD/FEA analysis, and MATLAB.

Jose has worked with leading organisations such as Antycip as a Flight Simulation Engineer, BAE Systems as a Manufacturing Engineering Intern supporting projects for the F-35 and Eurofighter Typhoon, and Anduril Industries as a UAS Engineer integrating AI-driven automation into autonomous aerial systems.

Alongside his industry experience, Jose has demonstrated strong leadership and innovation through his roles as President of the University of Manchester Flight Simulation Society and Aero Sub-Team Leader in Formula Student, where he led multidisciplinary teams in high-performance engineering projects. His achievements including winning “Most Innovative Aircraft Design” at the 2023 IT FLIES competition in the USA, as well as multiple awards in UK and European flight simulation competitions. Driven by passion for solving complex engineering challenges, Jose is particularly interested in bridging simulation with real-world performance to deliver impactful aerospace solutions.
